Zone of silence

A satellite is tested in a 'quiet zone' on the ground before it's blasted into orbit.

The Hispasat 36W-1 satellite waits in the Airbus Defence and Space’s Compact Antenna Test Range in Ottobrunn, Germany, on 1 September 2016.

The room is designed to muffle any outside frequencies, like a sound-proof room stops noise.

The satellite will join the Hispasat fleet of geostationary telecom satellites to provide Europe, the Canary Islands and the Americas with faster multimedia service.
