Can you build a house that is totally resistant to all bushfire fire damage? Is it possible? What about fire-proofing an existing building?

Engineering, fire science, construction and even psychology all need to be deployed to build in an area with high bushfire risk. It’s not easy work, and at the moment, the science is changing pretty rapidly.

In the third season of ‘Debunks’, the new podcast series from the Cosmos newsroom team and Nine Podcasts, science journalist Imma Perfetto explores all the science on bushfires. In this episode, she chats to a couple who lost their home during the Black Summer and rebuilt with fire in mind, as well as a raft of experts on what’s involved in fire-proofing a home.

Debunks is a science podcast that asks questions that you actually want answered. Each week a journalist in the Cosmos newsroom expertly guides listeners through the science topics of the day, from EVs and bushfires to Ozempic. Plus we unpack all the misinformation that comes with it.
