This view of Venus was acquired by the Japanese Akatsuki probe, which studies the atmosphere of the greenhouse planet from orbit.
The infrared image was captured using the spacecraft’s IR2 camera, which observes—among other things—the warm glow of the planet’s atmosphere on its night side.
