Biting into a piece of soft, squishy candy is a simple pleasure – but did you know the material behind the chewiness is gelatine, and that it has its beginnings as pig skin?
Directed by Alina Kneepkens, the video above was produced for Belgian TV show Over Eten (On Food), showing the process of gelatine production in reverse, starting with the candy being pulled from the mouth and ending with the pig it came from.
It gives a detailed insight into the ways that our common food items are produced, demonstrating that what we eat may not come from where we expect.
