But where do they come from, and how do they work?
Despite more than 3,000 emojis in use, the top ten remain remarkably consistent with 😂 and 😭 competing for 🥇.
But the science suggests we should tread carefully with emojis as use and interpretations vary wildly (and be especially wary when it comes to fruit).
