The number of COVID-affected people in hospitals and ICUs around the country continues to rise despite a slowing in the number of new cases.

State and territory reporting shows almost 2,300 people are hospitalised with COVID-19, on par with figures reported in January this year.

ICU admissions continue to jump – now at 71 nationwide – and are now at similar levels to the January wave.

Nationwide, new cases dipped slightly, at just shy of 30,000. That’s 500 fewer than last week’s report.

In the past week, NSW reported 11,745 new cases, 35 deaths, 1,285 hospitalisations and 36 people in ICU.

Victoria reported 6,255 new cases, 42 deaths, 310 hospitalisations and 17 people in ICU.

Queensland reported 3,561 new cases, 16 deaths, 287 hospitalisations and two in ICU.

WA reported 3,573 new cases, five deaths, 187 hospitalisations and eight people in ICU.

SA reported 2,674 new cases, seven deaths, 134 hospitalisations and three person in ICU.

Tasmania reported 758 new cases, four deaths, 26 hospitalisations and one person in ICU.

The ACT reported 629 new cases, two deaths, 37 hospitalisations and four person in ICU.

The NT reported 178 new cases, two deaths and 18 hospitalisations.
