X-ray view reveals galaxy’s supermassive black hole

High-energy X-rays (magenta) coming from a supermassive black hole at the heart of the galaxy are captured by NASA’s Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array, or NuSTAR, and aoverlaid on visible-light images from both NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.

NuSTAR’s high-energy X-ray view is the first to reveal this black hole which is blanketed by thick clouds of gas and dust.
