The European Space Agency has just released this image, captured by the High Resolution Stereo Camera about its Mars Express spacecraft on 12 July this year.
It shows the so-called Mangala Valles outflow channel system close to Minio Valles. The region has been subject to intense episodes of flooding, likely triggered by volcanic processes occurring in the nearby Tharsis region.
The name “Mangala” comes from the Sanskrit word for Mars.
