A dusty Martian selfie

Caught in one of the biggest, thickest dust storms ever seen on Mars, the Curiosity rover snapped a self-portrait showing its slightly soiled condition.

Unlike its sibling rover Opportunity, which has been so dust-ridden it has suspended operations indefinitely, the intrepid Curiosity is still working and sent the picture home, where it was posted on Twitter by NASA scientist Kevin Gill.


An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the picture shows the rover Opportunity, rather than Curiosity.
