Diver films mysterious pink manta ray

Scientists have so far been unable to explain why this manta ray, filmed swimming off the coast of Lady Elliot Island on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, has a pink underside.

It was filmed by Dive instructor Ryan Jeffery two weeks ago and re-posted on the Guardian’s website.

Experts have speculated that the colouration of the male ray may be due to a skin condition.
