The University Council named Cambridge graduate and research specialist Professor Maskell the next Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne last week.
He will be finishing his time as the Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cambridge to start his role in Melbourne in October, 2018.
Professor Maskell has enjoyed an exciting and full academic career in the field of infectious disease research. His curriculum vitae includes work with world class institutions including the Institute of Molecular Medicine at the University of Oxford, Imperial College of Science and the Cambridge School of Biological Sciences.
Beyond his academic achievements, Professor Maskell has co-founded four biotech companies, helping hone his experience in innovation and leadership.
Maskell is succeeding current Vice-Chancellor Professor Glyn Davis who has held the role for 13 years. They will be working closely together to ensure a smooth transition period as the University continues to maintain and grow its reputation as one of Australia’s leading world-class institutions.
