New chapter on the future of books – engagement is the key when reading digital books

The Australian Children’s Book Week Book of the Year will be announced today at about midday.

Book week runs August 20- 26 with the theme: “Dreaming with Eyes Open,” a reference to books, Indigenous culture and of course, children.

Each year since 1945 the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week.

As streaming overtaking markets for television and music, tech companies are banking on books being next. With the rise of digital book platforms, how are paper books holding up? 

Cosmos Science Journalist Petra Stock is writing a series about children’s e-books, for The Citizen, the publication of the Centre for Advancing Journalism. In her first article, Petra reports on the latest research about digital and paper books.
