The night parrot rangers

A few weeks ago, a group of Martu rangers working with Indigenous organisation Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa caught sight of the elusive night parrot. Fewer than 30 people have seen a live night parrot this century, making this sighting – on Martu country, in northern Western Australia – a rare and exciting event.

One of the rangers on the trip snapped a photo: the fourth photo ever taken of the night parrot in flight.

Cosmos had the opportunity to speak with Marjorie Nanudie and Colin Yabarllar, two of the rangers who were on the trip, about their sighting, and the ranger work they do with Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa.
