Cosmos is a quarterly science magazine. We aim to inspire curiosity in ‘The Science of Everything’ and make the world of science accessible to everyone.

After a review of its magazine business, CSIRO Publishing, the national science agency’s editorially independent publishing arm, has made the difficult decision to stop the production of Cosmos Magazine.
The final print edition of Cosmos Magazine will be published in June 2025. Digital subscriptions will also end in June 2025. All subscribers will be refunded their remaining subscription term, more details are below.
The Cosmos online news service will continue at cosmosmagazine.com but will transition later in the year to CSIRO Publishing’s new digital destination for science content. The new website will publish peer reviewed journals, e-books and fact-based science news to bring together our audiences for a sustainable future.
A news team will be employed to continue publishing stories about the latest science discoveries as well as interviews with scientists.
Make sure you are signed up to Cosmos newsletters and keep up to date with those developments.
This decision was not made lightly and mirrors a wider shift of audiences away from print magazines and the rising costs of producing print magazines.
We wish to thank all the writers, staff and readers that have supported Cosmos magazine over so many years.
Subscription refunds
Depending on how you purchased your subscription, here are the next steps:
- If your subscription was purchased directly from CSIRO Publishing and paid by credit card, the card owner’s account will be credited for the balance of your subscription.
- If your subscription was purchased through Royal Institution of Australia prior to June 2024, please contact us by email publishing.sales@csiro.au or call 1300 788000 to organise a refund.
- If your subscription was purchased via an agent, a refund will be organised following their standard processes.
- If you are a school or library and purchased via EFT or paid on invoice through your school account, we will be in touch to organise your refund.
