Coffee at risk – climate change just got more serious!

Maybe this is the issue to make climate sceptics take global warming seriously. Their morning coffee could be the first thing to go.

The US government says coffee is among the most vulnerable crops to the effects of rising temperatures.

“Coffee’s a temperature-sensitive crop,” and the rising temperatures caused by increased greenhouse gas emissions “put the world’s coffee-growing regions at risk,” said Gina McCarthy, head of the Environmental Protection Agency at the Council on Foreign Relations.

A 2012 study found that, under the best scenario, there would be 65% fewer growing locations for coffee plants 2080 and in the worst case, nowhere would be suitable.
