Glasses may make you smarter...

Scientists may have landed on the reason intelligence declines as we age. The say it is linked to how fast we process information.

A study, published in Current Biology today, followed a group of people from when they were 70 until they turned 76. Over the period the group was tested for intelligence and "inspection time".

Inspection time, which measures how long it takes for our visual systems to process the difference between objects, is a useful measure of how quickly people process information. The study, surprisingly, found a strong link between increasing inspection time and decreasing intelligence.

Stuart Ritchie from the University of Edinburgh says that inspection time could be used to quickly test intelligence in older people, rather than using complex IQ tests.
