The Great Reef Census has in the past three years collected more than 80,000 images of underwater life drawn all the way from the Torres Strait in the far north, to Lady Elliot Island in the south.
Now, it’s launched a new online platform that uses artificial intelligence to make it easier than ever for citizen scientists to help analyse those images. Compatible with both desktop and mobile, anyone around the world with access to the internet can jump on board and contribute.
The project hopes 20,000 people will volunteer in the next three months, to work with scientists and marine managers to undertake essential conservation efforts.
